General Information
Allen D.U. Non-Sanctioned Duck Calling Contest

Grab your call and come out for some fun with fellow waterfowler's on Saturday morning October 8th. This contest will take place at the new Cabela's store in Allen. Judges will be members of Allen D.U. and Cabela's. There will be a number of Pro Staffers at the store on the day of the event to provide expert tips in regards to calling ducks and waterfowling.

Prizes have been donated by Cabela's in all 3 divisions of the calling contest:

1st Place in each division - $100 Cabela's Gift Card

2nd Place in each Division - $50 Cabela's Gift Card

3rd Place in each Division - $25 Cabela's Gift Card.

Pro Class and Amateur Class can register and pay by clicking the "Buy Tickets" button on the left. We accept all major credit cards.

FREE Hot Dogs and water will be provided by the Allen D.U. committee during the event. Donations will be accepted and all proceeds from this event will be used to benefit Ducks Unlimited's wetland conservation initiatives.

This event is for ALL outdoor enthusiasts, and your ticket purchase will include a 1 yr. D.U. membership, great food, beverages, goodie bags for all attendees, camaraderie, giveaways, raffles and live and silent auction items. Everyone who purchases a ticket is automatically entered into the drawing for a new Apple I-Pad II.

All proceeds from this event go to managing and restoring wetlands for future generations. Some 73,814,126 acres were influenced and conserved in North America by Ducks Unlimited as of January 1, 2011.

We had a wonderful turnout for the 12th Annual Allen DU Banquet. Our Chapter was shooting for a Pintail Award, signifying 3 consecutive years of growth. This hasn't been accomplished for several years dating back to the early 2000's. The last 3 years have been some of the best years for the Allen Texas DU Chapter and was only made possible by our many donors, supporters, attendees and committee members!

We also had enough money donated to our Wood Duck Box Project that we will be able to build approximately 10 Wood Duck Boxes. It looks like our Project for 2010-2011 is back on track. We will keep everyone updated.

The Allen Chapter of Ducks Unlimited (DU) is having their 12^th Annual Fundraising Banquet on Thursday, 5 August 2010, 5:30 PM at the Swingin’ D Ranch, 3406 Dublin Road, Parker, Texas. All proceeds go to Ducks Unlimited to be used for wetland conservation and restoration, including the Gulf Coast oil cleanup.

Due to the enormous support from local and national sponsors and the generosity of attendees in 2008 & 2009, Allen Ducks Unlimited received awards given out by both DU National (Presidential Citation Award (Bronze in 2008 & Silver in 2009)) and the Texas State Committee (The Mallard (2008) and Widgeon (2009) Awards) for exceptional growth in fundraising. In 2010 Allen DU has the opportunity to do what very few chapters across the country have done, which is earn the Grand Slam Pintail Award for three exceptional, consecutive years of growth in funds raised.

Besides great barbeque, libations and fellowship; there will be various raffles and games, along with silent and live auction items. There will also be an opportunity to sponsor a wood duck box, in which chapter members build and place them on local public lakes for nesting ducks to use. Advance tickets (purchased by July 29^th) are $50 per person, and $70 per couple, youth $25, and a Bronze Sponsorship Corporate Table for eight costs $650. All the above includes one membership to Ducks Unlimited. Day of event tickets can be purchased at the door for a slightly higher price. Silver or Gold Sponsorship corporate tables are also available, please call if interested.

The Allen TX DU Chapter has started a Silent Bid Auction at the Academy in East Plano. The display is at the front door when you walk in. Each offering will be there for two weeks. The current print (below) will be exchanged Sunday April 11th and we will switch them out every two weeks. The minimum bid is $100 and the winner will be contacted within a week by an Allen DU Committee member. Payment can be made with cash, check or credit card. If the bid is $150 or more, the winner will receive a DU Membership.

The Allen Chapter of Ducks Unlimited is hosting a Special Gun Raffle to raise additional funds for wetlands conservation above and beyond our traditional fundraising efforts of the past. First Place Winner receives a Browning Silver Hunter 12 ga camo shotgun. Second Place Winner receives a Charles Daly 12 ga shotgun and a Marlin Model 60 Stainless 22 cal rifle with matching scope.
Contest Rules:
1. To win you must be 21 years of age, with valid drivers license and able to pass standard Federal Background check to claim prize.

2. Drawing will be held December 15th, 2009, or when 200 raffle chances have been sold, whichever is sooner. Mail-in entries will be returned if received after raffle is sold out.

Our 11th Annual Allen Tx DU Banquet is this Thursday, August 6th at the Swingin' D Ranch in Parker, Tx. Letter from the Chairman

The Allen Ducks Unlimited (DU) Chapter as a result from the success of their 2008 Fundraising Banquet received the Presidential Citation Award from DU National and the Mallard Award from the Texas State Chapter. Both awards are the highest honors available within the categories specified for acknowledgement of exceptional chapter performance. I would like to thank all the Committee Members, Event Sponsors and attendees of the 2008 Allen DU Fundraising Banquet for making it such a successful event. I have been looking forward to the 2009 event and believe it will be an even better year of fund raising for such a worthy cause. The Allen Committee has almost doubled in size and expanded immensely with enthusiasm over the past twelve months. Please enjoy the food, libations, raffles & auctions and fellowship this evening. Allen DU Chapter Receives National Recognition!!!

Our Chapter has received the Bronze Presidential Citation Award from DU National for our 2008 Wetlands Conservation efforts! Click the image for a larger view of the letter. Our chapter did an excellent job in last years Banquet, and we are looking to have a repeat year and shoot for the Silver Award for 2009.

In a post on our site, we published a press release and submitted it to various media outlets such as the Allen Image and the Dallas Morning News. Albeit a very small writeup, it is really neat to see this about our Chapter.

Allen Chapter Ducks Unlimited Donates Materials and time for Wood Duck Nesting Box Project

The Allen Chapter of Ducks Unlimited on Sunday February 15^th installed 11 wood duck boxes, in Lavon Lake. Ten Committee Members, including two green wings (youth under 17), donated all the materials, built the boxes and put them along a shoreline around and in the lake near Mallard Park on the eastern side. The Chapter worked with US Army Corps of Engineers personnel at the Lavon Lake Headquarters to determine the best locations for the boxes. It is hopeful these boxes will become nesting cavities for wood duck pairs that nest in the area.

The boxes need to be cleaned out and re-supplied with cedar shavings annually to entice birds to reuse the boxes the following year. A youth group is being sought to take on this responsibility starting next winter prior to the nesting season.

Wood ducks are one of a few species of waterfowl that nest in hollow tree cavities. The males are easily identifiable by their crested head, iridescent green, purple and blue colors, white chin, with partially red bill and red eyes. Females are grayish with a wide white eye ring. With development, loss of native wetlands, flood control and the frequent cutting down of dead trees with cavity holes these boxes provide additional artificial nesting habitat for local birds. The bird occurs from east Texas to the Atlantic Coast and along the Pacific Coast states. Some individuals migrate annually from the Canadian border to Southeast Texas, but some individuals remain locally (where born) throughout their entire lives. Wood ducks begin searching for a mate and nesting cavities in January and February with the majority of hatchings occurring during April and May, but have been observed hatching as late as July in East Texas.
